“When you tell someone that they are ‘stressed’ and that might be the reason they are sick they often feel like you just called them crazy. This could not be further from the truth. While stress starts in the mind it causes very real physical effects. It is these physical effects that over the long run can cause disease which is another obstacle to health. Many people feel fine for years and do nothing because there is no problem. However, even if we are not overweight we know that exercise is good for our health as is eating a balanced diet even if we feel fine. Stress management is in this category. The problems might take years to develop and for some maybe not at all, but I argue that everyone can only benefit from possessing these skills. I help make changes for life. Are you ready?”  -Christopher Salah, DAOM., L.Ac.

Integrative Medicine

Recently, integrative medicine has become a common term in healthcare. But what does this term really mean? Idealy it represents a structured order of healthcare that incorporates many different diciplines of medicine into a cohesive team that treats all aspects of an indivicual's health; body and mind. This team should also include you, the patient, because no one understands your body and state of mind better than you.

Unfortunately this is rarely the case. Most often the term integrative medicine refers to different types of practitioners simplely working under the same roof. Communication can be sparse as some diciplines, especially Eastern medicines, speak a completely different language. While the works are in progress, healthcare reform can be a slow process and because of this many patients are taking their health into their own hands.
